The Emily C. Specchio Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to support scholarships, fellowships, and mentoring for youth who want to change the world for the better. The foundation is named after Emily C. Specchio who inter-related the ideas of academic excellence with social responsibility. With this in mind, our mission is to encourage, identify and financially support youth who pursue study and/or programs underlying the values of social justice both nationally and internationally.
Our initiatives support youth from an early age through early adulthood. Some of our programs include:
- The Emily C. Specchio Memorial Scholarship at Virginia Tech. This scholarship is given annually to undergraduate students with an outstanding record of community service and high academic acheivement. The scholarship supports a study abroad semester, teaching cultural awareness.
- The Emily C. Specchio Ambassador Program. This program provides funding and mentorship to NJ Youth aged 18-25 with big ideas for community service projects either locally or internationally.
- Microlending to International Entrepreneurs. Through Kiva.org, the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, The Emily C. Specchio Foundation supports young women entrepreneurs in developing countries around the globe.
- Mentorship Program for Elementary School Children. With the help of the brothers of the Virginia Tech chapter of Phi Sigma Pi, The Emily C. Specchio Foundation is establishing a renewable vegetable and flower garden to provide mentorship and teach ecology and sustainability to children attending Gilbert Linkous Elementary School in Blacksburg, VA.
